Perfect Number, Poland/Italy/Israel, 2022, dir. Krzysztof Zanussi, in Polish with English subtitles

Joachim (Andrzej Seweryn) is a mature man who no longer needs to prove anything to anyone. He is wealthy, and his life is one long string of successes. The whims of fate introduce him to thirty-year-old David (Jan Marczewski), a mathematical genius who has abandoned a promising business career abroad and is looking for a channel to make use of his own talents in Poland.

Things become complicated when Ola (Julia Latosińska) enters David’s life. Joachim and David are two men at completely different stages of life. Can they each learn from one another? How can one choose between intellect, faith, and love?

In Perfect Number, Krzysztof Zanussi returns to the most important topics in his work and presents them in the unexpected form of an intellectual thriller.

Krzysztof Zanussi says of his film:

“Perfect Number is a film about mathematics and God. It is the story of a man who rejects wealth for the sake of passion, which turns out to be more valuable. It is also about emptiness in life and the fullness of life; about egotism and the joy of sharing with others. In this film, I return to my first films, The Structure of Crystals and The Illumination, which present the relationship between science, life, and faith.”

The True Life of Angels, Poland 2019, dir. Artur "Baron" Więcek, in Polish with English subtitles

The True Life of Angels is a drama inspired by the life of Krzysztof Globisz, one of the most acclaimed Polish actors, who in 2014 suffered a major stroke. Today, he is recovering, in front of the camera and on stage. His personal participation in this film is a unique and exceptional event: for probably the first time in film history, an actor who was the victim of a stroke and suffers from aphasia and paralysis is playing the leading role.

Kinga Preis and Jerzy Trela co-star in The True Life of Angels, while Anna Dymna plays a supporting role. Adam (Krzysztof Globisz), a well-known actor, experiences a sudden, massive stroke. His health fails, and he loses the basic tool of his work: his speech. Despite the seemingly hopeless diagnosis, Adam’s wife Agnieszka (Kinga Preis) stubbornly and perseveringly struggles for his return to health and onto the stage. Will Adam’s family and friends motivate him to take on the challenge and escape from the land between dreams and waking reality where he ended up during his illness? Will Adam recover from aphasia and return to his life prior to the stroke when he was an acclaimed actor and teacher loved by his students? What is most important in his life?

The Three Musketeers: D'Artagnan, France 2022, dir. Martin Bourboulon, in French with Polish subtitles
