Doctoral Students’ Film Club

Doctoral Students’ Film Club

The Culture Commission of the Jagiellonian University’s PhD Student Association invites you to the next edition of the Doctoral Students Film Club, which will be held on Thursday May 18th at 6:45 PM in the White Room of the Cinema Under the Rams. This time, we will watch Ali Abbasi's The Three Musketeers: D'Artagnan (France, 2022; in French with Polish subtitles). The film's description comes from the distributor.

This is an epic adaptation of one of the most famous adventure novels in the history of literature.

A huge budget, a star-studded cast, faithfulness to the literary source material, and state-of-the-art filmmaking: these are the defining features of the latest adaptation of Alexandre Dumas’ famous book.

Eva Green as Milday is as strong a performance as her role in Casino Royale, while Vicky Krieps is admired for her role in Corsage as a woman who impacted the course of history.

On the road to Paris, the young, valiant Gascon d’Artagnan defends a young woman. Defeated by masked assailants, he miraculously survives. Upon arrival in the capital, he decides to find the culprits and dispense justice. However, he does not suspect that he will thus find himself in the middle of an international intrigue threatening the security of France. Along with his new friends, the musketeers Athos, Porthos, and Aramis, he attempts to thwart the dangerous connivances of Cardinal Richelieu. However, it is love for the beautiful Constance Bonacieux that leads him to great danger. Constance is the confidante of the queen of France who becomes entangled in a dangerous game whose aim is to pull the country into a destructive war. D’Artagnan must fight for the security and honor of his beloved and her lady. In this way, he becomes a mortal enemy of Milady de Winter, who will not give an inch to implement her devious plot.

Admission is free for doctoral students at the Jagiellonian University, although the number of participants is limited. We ask all who are interested in attending the event to send an email to filip.mazurczak@doctoral.uj.edu.pl by Wednesday May 17th. The introduction to the film will begin at 6:45 PM sharp. Please arrive on time.

Immediately after the film screening (at approximately 9:00 PM), we invite you to the nearby Cellar Under the Rams. This will be an opportunity to discuss the film with your fellow doctoral students. Drinks and refreshments are on the Jagiellonian University’s PhD Student Association; however, the number of slots for this part of next Thursday's event is limited. Please specify in your email if you plan on attending the film screening, going to the pub, or participating in both.
